We obtained this seed garlic in Prince Edward Island. Being described as having a ‘buttery’ flavour intrigued us, so plant we must… we’ll see how it adapts to our soil and growing conditions in southwestern Ontario. VERY pleased with how this cultivar has performed in our conditions. Beautiful large bulbs.
Storage: Typically, 3-5 months for best freshness. However, it’s been noted by Jim of Rasa Creek in B.C. that with careful monitoring and proper conditions, about 60% humidity and about 10 degrees Celsius, he has kept rocamboles as long as 8 months.
Growing Info: Early to mid-season harvest. Since the wrappers of rocamboles are loose and thin, one needs to watch out for deteriorating bulb wrappers in the ground. The more wrappers the better. So, harvest as soon as you’re comfortable with bulb size (maybe after just one or two leaves are brown.)
Availability: Limited availability for 2023
